Why use a guard
A light mounted inside the cage loses nothing to a screen top, which is why PVC enclosures so often have their UVB inside. The catch is that geckos, snakes, and frogs will use branches, backgrounds, or cables to reach a ceiling-mounted light. A guard puts hard-coated metal mesh between them and the lamp and fixture.
Arcadia designed the mesh to let most of the UVB and visible light through, so the guard costs only about 15% of the light energy.

RALGP0 is the smallest LampGuardPro, and the size Arcadia specifies for its 8 W ShadeDwellerPro. Fixtures vary, so check your exact light before you order it for another brand. Its 2 in depth keeps headroom in smaller PVC cages. It is too short for the 14 W ShadeDweller Max.

Fitting it
Switch off the light and let it cool.
Hold the guard over the fixture so it covers the whole lamp, and check it clears the mounting clips and cable connections.
Fix it to the ceiling or wall of the enclosure at its four fixing points with the four screws included. Check first that they suit the thickness of your panel and that no tip will poke through where your animal can reach, and use other screws if your surface needs them.
Run the cable out through one of the cable entry points, and secure it where your animal cannot climb or pull on it.
To change a lamp later, remove two screws and swing the guard open on its hinges.
Close the guard securely, then check the UV index where your animal basks with the guard in place. Any mesh cuts some UV, so do not rely on readings taken without it.
Our advice
Wipe the mesh down as part of your monthly cleaning. Dust on the mesh cuts the light that gets through, and switch the light off first.

Does it block UVB?
A little, as any mesh does. Arcadia puts the loss at about 15% of the light energy, so about 85% gets through.
Does it fit the LumenIZE ShadeDweller?
Arcadia specifies this size for the 8 W ShadeDwellerPro, and says LampGuardPro suits LumenIZE systems, but it has not given a fit for the LumenIZE 8 W kit. Ask us before pairing the two.
Are screws included?
Yes, four mounting screws. Check their length against the thickness of your panel before you fit them, and use other screws if your surface needs them.
Is a lamp or fixture included?
No, just the guard and its four screws. The light is sold separately.
Will it fit any light shorter than 16 in?
Not always. The width, depth, mounting clips, and cable connections all affect the fit, so check every clearance before you order.
Does the guard replace the lamp's minimum distance?
No. Keep to the lamp maker's minimum distance, and check the UV at every spot your animal can reach.
