What it takes
Screw-in reptile lamps within the fixture's rating. Depending on the bulb, that can be a basking spot, a daytime heat lamp, a halogen, a ceramic heat emitter, or a compact UVB lamp. Not every bulb fits inside the deep dome, and some lamps need a particular fixture, so check both sets of instructions. Zoo Med suggests it for its ReptiSun Mini Compact Fluorescent UVB lamps. The fixture itself gives no UVB.
Setting it up
Check the wattage printed on your fixture, and choose a bulb that fits the dome and stays within it.
Unplug the fixture, then screw the bulb gently into the ceramic socket without forcing it.
Place the dome over the basking area as Zoo Med directs, and secure it so it cannot be knocked over, clear of plants, bedding, and anything that can melt or burn. Do not rest a hot dome on PVC unless the enclosure and mounting are rated for it.
Check temperatures on the basking spot and the cool side, and UVB at the basking spot if you are running a UVB lamp. Run a heat bulb on a thermostat that suits it.
Check the fixture and cord for damage regularly, and stop using it if either is damaged.

Questions
What is the maximum wattage?
The version we list is rated for 100 W. Zoo Med now lists some LF-18 units at 125 W, so follow the rating printed on yours and never go over it.
Will a compact UVB bulb stick out of it?
Usually not. The deep dome surrounds many bulbs, so the bulb sits farther inside it. Not every bulb fits, so check its size.
Does it come with a bulb?
No, the bulb is sold separately.
Can I run it on a thermostat?
Yes, with a suitable heat bulb, as long as the thermostat's way of controlling suits that bulb. Follow the thermostat maker's instructions.
