What it takes

Zoo Med Creatures bulbs, daylight bulbs, and low-watt heat bulbs, each within its socket's 40 W. Many setups do best with one heat bulb and one daylight bulb rather than two heat bulbs.

Setting it up

  1. Screw each bulb in snugly, without over-tightening.

  2. Set the fixture on a secure screen top, never inside the enclosure, where your animal cannot reach the bulbs or wiring.

  3. Check the warm zone with a thermometer or temperature gun.

  4. Raise the fixture or swap to a lower-watt bulb if it runs too warm.

  5. Put it on a timer for a steady day and night cycle.

Our advice
Start with the lowest-watt bulb that might do the job, then change one thing at a time while you watch the temperatures. Most invertebrates need gentle warmth, not a basking spot.

Questions

Can I run two heat bulbs at once?

Yes, as long as each is 40 W or less and the pair stays within 80 W. One heat bulb and one daylight bulb is usually easier to keep from overheating.

Is 80 W enough heat?

For most small invertebrate setups, yes. Measure the temperatures and adjust if needed.

Can it go inside the enclosure?

No. It is for use outside only, on a secure screen lid.
