The UVB300 is built to reproduce key parts of sunlight for reptiles from open habitats. Set at the right distance it gives the high UV these species need. UVB helps reptiles make vitamin D3 for calcium use and healthy bones and shells, and Exo Terra notes UVA can support activity, appetite, and breeding behaviour.

Who it suits
Reptiles with high UV needs that bask in strong, direct sun. It is not for shade-dwelling or low-UV species.

Exo Terra recommends its T5 Terrarium Top, but the bulbs also work in standard T5 fixtures of the right wattage.
Setting it up
Choose the right level: confirm your reptile needs high UV.
Match the fixture to the bulb's wattage and length.
Set the basking distance for your species and the output of your setup.
Allow for mesh, which changes how much UV gets through.
Make shade: lower-UV areas and somewhere with no direct UV at all.
Check the output with a UV index meter where you can.
High-output lamp
The wrong distance, or use with a species that needs less UV, can give too much UV exposure. Always give shade and an area with no direct UV.
UVB is one part of lighting. Exo Terra recommends pairing it with an infrared-A heat source and bright visible light, so your reptile basks in heat and light together.
When to replace it
UV output drops slowly as the tube ages, even while it still gives visible light. Exo Terra recommends checking the UVB output after about one year of use.

Is it suitable for desert reptiles?
It can be, for high-UV species from open desert and similar sunny habitats. Choose by species, Ferguson zone, basking distance, and setup.
Is it good for tall terrariums?
Its VHO design gives strong UVB penetration and works in suitable taller terrariums. The UV index at the basking spot still depends on distance, fixture, reflector, and mesh.
Which fixture should I use?
Exo Terra recommends its T5 Terrarium Top. Compatible standard T5 fixtures of the right wattage work too.
How often should I replace it?
Check the UVB output after about a year, as Exo Terra recommends, and replace it when it no longer gives the level your animal needs.
Does it replace a basking lamp?
No. Pair it with an infrared-A heat source and bright visible light.
