The UVB200 sits between the low UVB100 and the high UVB300, for species that need more than low-level UV but not a full-sun 14% lamp. It uses Exo Terra's Sunergy phosphor blend to reproduce key parts of the sun's UVA and UVB. UVB helps reptiles make vitamin D3 for calcium use and healthy bones and shells, and UVA can support activity, appetite, and breeding behaviour.

Exo Terra recommends its T5 Terrarium Top, but the bulb also works in standard T5 fixtures of the right wattage.

Setting it up

  • Confirm the species' needs: a Ferguson zone 2 UVB source should be right for it.

  • Match the fixture to the bulb's wattage and length.

  • Set the basking distance to give the right UV index at the basking spot.

  • Allow for mesh, which changes how much UV gets through.

  • Make shade: lower-UV areas and somewhere your reptile can get fully out of the light.

  • Check the output with a UV index meter where you can.

Our advice
Choose UVB by species, Ferguson zone, and basking distance, not the percentage alone. Reflectors, screen tops, and mounting height all change what reaches your animal.

It gives UV, not basking heat. Exo Terra recommends pairing it with an infrared-A heat source and bright visible light, so heat and light meet at the basking spot.

When to replace it

Exo Terra says its VHO T5 bulbs give long-lasting UVB for 12 months or more. Output still drops as the tube ages, so measuring the UV index at the basking spot tells you more than how bright it looks.

Questions

Can I use it in a tall terrarium?

Yes. Its VHO design gives strong UVB penetration and works in suitable taller terrariums. The UV index still depends on distance, fixture, reflector, and any mesh.

Which fixture should I use?

Exo Terra recommends its T5 Terrarium Top. Compatible standard T5 fixtures of the right wattage work too.

Does screen or mesh affect UVB?

Yes. Screen and mesh change how much UV reaches your animal, so allow for the top when you set the distance.

How long does it last?

Exo Terra rates it for 12 months or more of UVB. Measuring the UV index is the best way to know what it is actually giving.

Does it replace a basking lamp?

No. Pair it with an infrared-A heat source and bright visible light, as Exo Terra recommends.
