The TerraSky UV puts daylight, UVA, and UVB LEDs in one horizontal fixture with a 120° spread, so a wide part of the terrarium gets light and UV rather than one spot. UVB lets your animal make vitamin D3 to use calcium, which helps prevent metabolic bone disease, and UVA encourages appetite, activity, and natural behaviour. This is the fixture, not the screw-in TerraSky UV bulb.

Who it suits

Keepers who want UV and strong plant light from a single fixture. Exo Terra recommends it for planted setups, bioactive terrariums, paludariums, and aquatic turtle terrariums, and notes orchids, bromeliads, air plants, carnivorous plants, mosses, lichen, and aquatic plants grow well under it.

Because you set the UVB level yourself, it can be tuned to your species. Check what UV your animal needs, and measure at the basking spot with a UV meter.

Setting it up

  1. Mount it above the screen top on its extendable brackets. Exo Terra's mounting clips (PT2434, sold separately) let you fit it inside the terrarium. Keep it at least 20 cm (8 in) from your animal, allowing for branches and raised spots it can climb. That is a minimum, not a working distance.

  2. Set the white, UVA, and UVB levels with the remote.

  3. Measure the UV at the basking spot with a UV meter, give your animal shade, and measure again whenever you change the UV settings, the distance, or the mesh. Brightness tells you nothing about UV.

  4. Choose an 8, 12, or 14 hour day; sunrise and sunset run on their own. Changing the day length through the year mimics the seasons.

  5. Use the 3 sunlight and 2 moonlight presets to change the strength of the day or night light with one button.

  6. Save your own settings to the three memory buttons.

  7. Use the biofluorescence button at night to make fluorescent plants, fungi, invertebrates, reptiles, or amphibians glow.

Questions

Does it give heat?

No, Exo Terra does not sell it as a heat source. Add a basking lamp on its own thermostat if your species needs a warm spot.

When should I check the UVB output?

Exo Terra recommends checking it after two years of use. That is not a promise of the right exposure before then, so measure when you set it up and whenever you change the distance, mesh, or settings.

Can it go in a humid cage?

Yes. The housing is rated IP54 for humid environments.
