The 14 W tube gives more light across the whole spectrum than the compact 8 W ShadeDweller, so it needs only 2.5% UVB to reach a useful UV Index at basking distance. Its length suits larger naturalistic and bioactive enclosures, lighting more of the animal while leaving it shade to retreat to.

Who it suits
Arcadia developed it around commonly kept snakes, and it also suits other reptiles and amphibians that need lower UV:
Royal (ball) pythons and other suitable pythons
Corn, king, milk, and rat snakes

Setting it up
This is the 14 W tube only. It does not include the ProT5 fixture, reflector, power cable, mounting hardware, or link cable. The fixture holds the LumenIZE electronics, so this tube fits both standard and LumenIZE ShadeDweller Max systems. If you need the fixture too, choose a complete kit.
Match the rating, not the length
It does not replace the shorter 8 W ShadeDweller tube, and a 24 W T5 HO tube is not interchangeable with it just because the lengths are close. Tubes of a similar length can need different electrical gear and give different UV, so match the 14 W ShadeDweller Max 2.5% UVB rating.

Mesh cuts UV
Arcadia notes that stainless steel mesh can reduce UVI by 30% or more. A UV meter is the surest way to check what reaches your animal.
The UVB percentage does not tell you the UV Index where your animal sits: distance, the reflector, mesh, and the lamp's output all change it. Allow for branches and raised spots that bring your animal closer to the lamp, give it shaded retreats, and check the basking spot with a UV meter where you can.
When to replace it
Arcadia rates the lamp for 12 months of UV when run up to 12 hours a day in an Arcadia fitting. Visible light does not tell you the UVB is still there, so replace it on time unless you check it with a UV meter. Standard ProT5 and LumenIZE lamp holders change differently, so follow your fixture's instructions. A new tube may give more UVB than the old one, so note the date and check the UV again after the change.

Questions
Is it suitable for a ball python?
Yes. Arcadia lists royal and ball pythons among the species it suits, set up to give the right UVI with shade available.
Why only 2.5% UVB?
The 14 W tube puts out more light overall than the 8 W ShadeDweller, so a lower UVB percentage still gives a useful UV Index at the target distance.
What UVI does it give at 12 in?
About 1.0 at 12 in (300 mm), at the strongest central point, in the ShadeDweller Max ProT5 system without mesh.
Why is the tube 22 in when the LumenIZE kit says 24 in?
The 22 in is the tube. The LumenIZE ShadeDweller Max kit is sold as 24 in, and its fixture measures 23.4 in, with the tube sitting inside it.
Will it add app control to my standard fixture?
No. The Bluetooth control and dimming come from the LumenIZE fixture, not the tube.
Can it replace a basking bulb?
No. It is a UV light, so use separate heating to give your animal the temperatures it needs.
