What it does

  • Focuses heat and light into a tight spot, making a strong basking zone.

  • Gives off UVA to support natural behaviour, appetite, and activity.

  • Raises the air temperature so you can build a proper thermal gradient.

  • Fits most ceramic reptile fixtures and clamp lamps with its standard screw-in base.

Who it suits

  • Bearded dragons and other desert lizards

  • Uromastyx and other high-heat lizards

  • Tortoises and basking turtles, over a land area

  • Many snakes that benefit from a defined warm basking zone

Typical use

Suggested enclosure

50 W

Small enclosures, young reptiles, or species that need moderate basking temperatures

Up to about 20 gal, or smaller PVC enclosures

75 W

Small to medium enclosures, many geckos and smaller lizards

About 20 to 40 gal, or similar PVC

100 W

Most medium enclosures and common baskers such as adult bearded dragons

About 40 to 75 gal, or a typical 3 x 2 x 2 ft setup

125 W

Larger or taller enclosures where more heat must reach the basking spot

Large tanks and larger PVC cages

150 W

Very large or open enclosures, and high-heat species

Extra large or tall, airy builds

These are guidelines only. Check basking and ambient temperatures, and adjust the wattage, height, and ventilation for your setup.

Setting it up

  1. Fit the bulb in a heat-rated ceramic fixture or clamp lamp. Do not use a fixture with a plastic socket.

  2. Hang it above a basking surface so your reptile can move in and out of the hot spot freely.

  3. Pair it with a UVB lamp suited to your species.

  4. Run it on a thermostat or dimming control.

  5. Check basking and cool-side temperatures often with a digital thermometer or temperature gun.

Useful with it

Questions

Does it give UVB?

No. It gives heat, visible light, and UVA. Most reptiles still need a separate UVB lamp.

Can I put a high-wattage bulb in a small tank?

Usually not. The 125 W and 150 W suit large or tall enclosures. In a small one, start with 50 W or 75 W and adjust.

Do I need a thermostat?

We strongly recommend one, or a dimmer, with any basking bulb, and checking temperatures regularly so your animal never overheats.
