The ReptiTherm bonds to the outside of your terrarium for good heat transfer. Zoo Med says it can bring the temperature up by about 2 to 8 degrees, depending on how it is mounted, the substrate, and other conditions, so it suits a warm spot or a secondary heat source more than heating a whole cage.

Setting it up

  • Outside only. Stick it to the outside of the tank, never inside.

  • Raise the tank. When it goes underneath, lift the tank on the included feet so the heat is not trapped.

  • Not for water. Do not use it on an aquatic tank; Zoo Med warns it can cause stress cracks.

  • Watch light substrates. With pine shavings or sphagnum moss, Zoo Med suggests Eco Carpet underneath, to prevent burns where your animal pushes the substrate aside over the heater.

  • It sticks for good. It adheres permanently, so choose the spot first.

Use a thermostat in a warm room
Zoo Med recommends a thermostat or rheostat if your home reaches 80 °F or warmer. We suggest running it on a thermostat either way.
