Who it suits

Reptiles use heat to digest, stay active, and regulate their body temperature, and a good basking spot gives them that. The Golden Sun suits desert, semi-arid, and sun-loving species, including:

  • Bearded dragons

  • Uromastyx

  • Monitors and tegus

  • Blue tongue skinks

  • Leopard geckos, for daytime heat

  • Other reptiles that bask by day

Setting it up

  • 75 W for smaller enclosures or warmer rooms.

  • 100 W for larger enclosures or cooler rooms.

  1. Fit the lamp in a heat-safe fixture with a ceramic E26 socket, out of your reptile's reach.

  2. Run it on a thermostat or dimmer.

  3. Check the basking surface with a digital thermometer or temperature gun.

  4. Adjust the lamp height, wattage, or fixture until the basking spot is right for your species.

Halogen lamps get very hot
Always use a suitable ceramic socket fixture, and keep the lamp where your reptile cannot touch it. Add a guard if it could.

Questions

Does it give off UVB?

No. It gives heat and visible light only. Add a separate UVB lamp if your reptile needs it.

Do I need a thermostat?

A thermostat or dimmer helps control the heat, and you should still check the basking temperature with a thermometer.
