Live fragments of Bryum caespiticium, a tough moss that grows in shade but stands up to direct sun when kept moist. Mix it into a paste, spread it on stone, soil, or wood, and keep it wet while it fills in.

The fragments come pre-ground for easy mixing. Hydrated, they form a gel-like paste that clings to rough surfaces such as flagstone joints, pavement, rock, soil, and wood. The moss is glossy emerald when moist and turns a more brownish green when dry.

Where to use it

  • Bright terrariums and display enclosures, away from hot, arid basking spots

  • Bioactive builds with sunlit or high-light zones

  • Moss bowls, dish gardens, and tabletop scapes in bright rooms

  • Outdoors: sunny flagstone joints, driveways, patios, rock gardens, and walls

Setting it up

  1. Mix it with a few cups of clean water and leave it about 10 minutes to thicken into a paste, or spread it straight on the area and mist until evenly damp.

  2. Clear weeds, leaves, and debris, and dampen the surface.

  3. Spread and press the paste into joints, cracks, and texture so the fragments make good contact.

  4. Water or mist twice a day during germination so it never dries out.

  5. Once it is established, cut back gradually to regular light moisture.

Start it outdoors
Mossify recommends germinating it outdoors and keeping it constantly wet early on. Growth is not guaranteed and varies with climate, watering, and light.
