Two heat sources and a light from one controller. The ReptiZoo THC12 has two thermostat outlets with their own day and night temperatures, and a third outlet that runs on a timer, so you can drop the separate plug-in timer.

  • 2 PID temperature-controlled outlets, on and off or dimming

  • 1 timer outlet for lighting

  • Separate day and night temperatures

  • 300 W maximum per outlet, built-in circuit breaker

  • 3 outlets
  • 2 PID heating channels
  • 1 timer outlet
  • Day and night settings
  • 300 W per outlet

Many enclosures run more than one heater plus a light, and a controller for each means extra cords and clutter. The THC12 puts them in one unit, with each heating channel set on its own, so two heating zones can sit at two different temperatures.

How it controls heat

  • PID control adjusts power as the enclosure nears its target, which helps keep heat steady and cuts large swings.

  • Dimming mode varies the power to a heater that can be dimmed, such as a suitable basking lamp. On and off mode switches it fully. Not every heater can be dimmed, so check its instructions.

  • Day and night temperatures let each heating zone run cooler at night.

  • The circuit breaker adds protection against some electrical faults, but it does not replace a careful setup and regular checks.

An LED or UVB fixture

The timer outlet never controls temperature, so do not plug a heater into it. Connect each device to the right outlet.

It suits PVC cages, glass terrariums, smaller breeding racks on heat tape or heat mats, and setups with more than one heat source, as long as every device stays within 300 W.

Setting it up

  1. Place the controller somewhere dry outside the enclosure, away from water, high humidity, and direct heat.

  2. Plug your heaters into the two temperature outlets. Check each one's wattage, and that it supports the mode you choose.

  3. Fix each probe in the zone its outlet heats, where your reptile cannot move it.

  4. Set each channel's day temperature, and a lower night temperature if your reptile needs one.

  5. Plug your light into the timer outlet and set its on and off times.

  6. Let the enclosure settle, check both zones with a separate thermometer, and confirm the timer switches at the right times.

Check the load
Each outlet takes up to 300 W. Check every device's rating, follow the total-load limit on the unit's rating label, and do not use damaged cords or loose plugs.
Our advice
A loose probe measures the wrong spot, and the thermostat then heats to the wrong temperature. Secure the probes, check them often, and compare the readings with a thermometer or temperature gun now and then.

Questions

Are all three outlets temperature controlled?

No. Two control temperature and the third works as a timer.

Is it a proportional thermostat?

Yes, on the two heating channels. They use PID control and offer a dimming mode for suitable heaters.

Can I use it with radiant heat panels?

Yes, with compatible panels and the right control mode. Follow the panel maker's instructions.

Can I run UVB lighting from the timer outlet?

Yes. It switches a suitable UVB or LED fixture on and off for a regular light cycle.

Does it have Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi is not among its listed features, so do not count on remote access. For Wi-Fi alerts, look at the Herpstat SpyderWeb models.

Do I need more outputs or a higher rating?

The Herpstat 4 has four outputs, and the Exo Terra 600 W thermostat gives a single channel with a higher rating.
