Malaysian driftwood is a favourite for aquascapes and naturalistic terrariums. It adds height and lines, it makes cover, and in a planted terrarium it can be the climb, the perch, or the centrepiece.

Larger pieces carry more branches and work best as the focal point of a bigger build. Want more branching or a thicker trunk? Add a note at checkout and we will pick the closest piece we have. Showpiece pieces go by pickup or freight only.

Preparing it for water

Soak the wood before it goes in an aquarium. Soaking helps it sink and draws out some of the tannins that tint the water.

  1. Rinse off loose dust and debris.

  2. Soak it in a bucket of warm water for 24 to 48 hours.

  3. If it still floats, keep soaking until it stays down.

  4. If the water turns yellow, soak it again or run carbon in the filter to clear it.

Using it in your enclosure

  • Aquariums: hardscape for plants, cover for fish, and depth.

  • Terrariums: a perch, a climbing piece, or a base to attach plants and moss.

  • Paludariums: a bridge between land and water, with routes and resting spots.

Every piece is different
This is natural wood, so shape, thickness, and branching vary from piece to piece. The size is a length range, not an exact measurement.
What to expect in water
Some pieces tint the water at first, and a harmless white biofilm can appear early on. Both are normal. Wipe or rinse the wood and keep up with normal tank maintenance.

Questions

Will it sink right away?

Some pieces sink quickly and others need more time. If yours floats, keep soaking it.

Why is my aquarium water yellow?

Driftwood releases tannins. Soak it longer, do water changes, or run carbon to clear the tint.

Will my piece look like the photo?

Not exactly. You get a piece in the length range you choose, and branching and thickness vary. Small marks and surface texture are part of the natural look.

14 day returns on eligible unused stock items, return shipping paid by the customer. Built-to-order goods are covered by the construction warranty rather than by returns. Restocking Fees Apply for returns
