Use it as the main soil layer in a humid build, over a drainage layer and under a cap of leaf litter. It holds water without packing down, so roots, springtails, and isopods can move through it.

What it's made of

Long fibre sphagnum moss holds moisture and adds texture.

Tropical melaleuca adds structure and keeps the mix light.
Black earth feeds plant growth and gives a tropical soil feel.

It is a natural blend, so texture varies a little from batch to batch.

Setting it up

Add a drainage layer if the build is planted or heavily misted.
Add the mix as the main soil layer.
Top it with leaf litter to hold moisture and protect the soil.
Add cork, branches, and tropical plants.
Watch humidity, and adjust misting and airflow together.

Our advice

If you feed on the substrate, use a dish or feeding ledge so your animal swallows less of it.

Questions

Is it good for frogs?

Yes. It is commonly used in frog terrariums and other humid amphibian setups. Good airflow and clean water still matter.

Do I need a drainage layer?

Most planted and humid terrariums do better with one. It protects roots and keeps the main soil from staying too wet.

Can I use it in a full bioactive setup?

Yes. It supports plants and small cleanup crews. Balance moisture and airflow so the enclosure stays fresh.
