A Calgary customer who fosters snakes for the Calgary Humane Society traded a mix of glass tanks for a matched stack of Cornel's World PVC cages.

The finished stack, clean, uniform, and ready for foster snakes

Some of our favourite projects are the ones that directly support rescue and foster work. This customer wanted enclosures that would be easy to work in, safe and secure for the animals, and clean enough to pass any "living room test."

The result is a clean stack of PVC cages with a matching stand and storage. It replaced a mix of glass tanks and older enclosures, turning the foster room into a professional-looking reptile space that's also far easier to maintain.

From glass tanks to luxury homes

Here's what Dave had to say once everything was in place and the animals had moved in:

We've got our new enclosures mostly set up, and love 'em! They really clean up the room and give excellent presentation for our snakes. We feel we're providing our pets with luxury homes now, instead of the run-of-the-mill glass enclosures. They're a little spoiled now and we really couldn't be happier with how they look, and how much more functional the enclosures are.
Dave and Melissa, Calgary, AB

Going from mixed glass tanks to a matched stack of PVC cages makes a huge difference in both looks and function. Solid tops help hold in heat and humidity, the doors stay cleaner, and the extra depth and height give the snakes more usable space. For foster animals that may come in a little stressed, a secure, consistent environment goes a long way.

Fine-tuning heat and misting

As with most stacks, the top enclosure ran a little cooler than the lower two. Dave noticed it right away and reached out with a plan:

The top terrarium isn't getting quite as warm as we'd like it to be. I suspect it's because they've got heat tape above and below to provide the heat. I'm thinking another strip of heat tape for the top enclosure will bring our temps up that last little bit. Can I order a strip of the 6" heat tape, 2 feet long, wired up and ready to plug in?
Dave, Calgary, AB

One of the advantages of PVC caging is that it's easy to tweak and upgrade over time, whether that's adding a strip of heat tape, upgrading to radiant heat panels, or changing the lighting as animals grow or enclosures are repurposed for new foster arrivals.

The heat tape

The stand also has room for a misting system. Because the pump isn't submersible, Dave wanted to make sure the cabinet would safely hold it and keep it out of any potential leaks. We talked through mounting the pump, using a tote inside the stand as a reservoir, and sealing any penetrations so the system is safe and serviceable long-term.

Picking a sealant
Dynaflex 230 is fine for basic sealing, but not where it will sit in standing water. Lexel can sit in standing water, but give it extra time to offgas before animals go in.

First impressions matter

Even before the cages were set up, the excitement was there. As soon as the delivery was made, we got this note:

Mel just sent me a photo of our new terrariums, and they look absolutely fantastic!! I can't wait to get home and get these bad boys set up. Thanks again for everything. It's been great dealing with you and hopefully I'll be ordering more from you in the future. I'll definitely send you photos when we've got it set up, and I'll be sure to recommend you to friends.
Dave, Calgary, AB

That kind of reaction is exactly what we aim for: enclosures that look so good in a photo that you're itching to get them unwrapped and running, whether they're going into a reptile room, a living room, or, in this case, a foster space for humane society animals.

Supporting rescue work in Calgary

Dave also shared the new cages with staff at the humane society, who were excited to see the upgrade and the level of care going into the foster reptiles. We've worked with organizations like the Calgary Humane Society on larger projects too, so seeing these cages support both personal pets and foster animals is a nice full-circle moment.

If you're fostering reptiles, running a small rescue, or just trying to clean up a room full of mismatched tanks, we can help you design a stack or wall of enclosures that's safer, easier to work in, and looks like it belongs in a professional facility, without losing the personality of your animals or your space.
