The substrate you choose affects humidity, hygiene, and your animal's ability to dig, burrow, and shed properly. We stock professional-grade options so you can match the enclosure to the species, not the other way around.

These are the products we recommend, sorted by the type of environment your animal lives in.

Desert species

Bearded dragons, leopard geckos, uromastyx, and other arid species thrive on firm, low-moisture substrates that allow digging and stable basking surfaces.

Tip
Use reptile-safe sands and clays that support tunnelling without excessive dust. Exo Terra Desert Stone comes in several colours, each its own product.

Ball pythons and other humid snake setups

Soft, absorbent substrates that hold moisture evenly without getting muddy.

Go-4-Coco husk (8 to 16 mm) works well here too.

Colubrids

Corn snakes, kingsnakes, and milksnakes do well on clean, low-humidity substrates that encourage burrowing and easy spot-cleaning.

Tropical and arboreal

Crested geckos, day geckos, and tree frogs need moist, breathable substrates that support humidity and live plants.

Amphibians and dart frogs

Constantly moist substrates that won't compact or sour, great for surface humidity and soft landings.

Arachnids and other invertebrates

Tarantulas, isopods, and millipedes need dense, moisture-holding substrates that support tunnelling and stable humidity.

Bioactive setups

Nutrient-rich, airy mixes that support plants, microfauna, and long-term enclosure stability.
