Replacement Redline Science heat tape for a Vivarium Electronics VE-6 snake rack. Renew a worn or damaged strip and keep the rack, VE 108 tubs, and thermostat you already have. It runs under the tubs as belly heat, and only through a proportional thermostat.

Before you order
Check your rack is a standard VE-6. For a VE-2, choose the VE-2 tape instead. The VE-6 Economy is a different rack, so check its heating layout with us first.
Compare your old tape and rack setup with the replacement you choose.
Check your thermostat and its probe, and replace a damaged probe or cable before the rack goes back into service.
Wiring is chosen separately from the tape. If you are not sure which tape and wiring you need, contact us with your rack model and a description of your heating setup and we will help.
Fitting it safely
Unplug the rack before you inspect or replace any heating part.
Check the old tape, cord, and connections for discolouration, rippling, cracks, worn insulation, or signs of overheating.
Lay the new tape flat in its place. Never fold, overlap, kink, or pinch it.
Secure and insulate every connection, and keep them away from moisture and rubbing. If you are not used to electrical work, have a qualified person do it.
Connect a proportional thermostat and check its probe is secure.
Let the temperature settle, then check each tub with a separate thermometer before animals go back in.
Know the warning signs

Does this include the rack?
No. It is the replacement heat tape only.
Does it come with wiring?
Wiring is a separate choice from the tape. Check what each wiring option includes, or ask us, before you order.
Do I need a thermostat?
Yes. Never run heat tape without a proportional thermostat, such as a Herpstat.
How do I know my old tape needs replacing?
Look for discolouration, rippling, damaged insulation, or an unusual smell. If you see any of these, disconnect the heat straight away.
