Grub Pie is Repashy's gel premix for insect-eating animals of all kinds. Its black soldier fly larvae are raised in the USA on feed Repashy specifies, and cold-pressed, which removes about half the fat without high heat. That brings the larvae to about 12% fat and over 55% protein, with close to a 2:1 calcium to phosphorus ratio. It takes over 1,000 larvae to make one ounce.

Who it's for

Repashy names bearded dragons, leopard geckos, fat-tailed geckos, skinks, dwarf monitors, day geckos, giant geckos, turtles, salamanders, and aquatic amphibians. Even species that usually want moving prey and ignore freeze-dried insects or pellets are often drawn to the smell. Some animals need teasing or a little training before they recognize it as food.

How to feed it

  1. Bring water to a boil on the stove, in the microwave, or in a kettle.

  2. Pour the boiling water into a bowl and stir in the powder straight away, 1 part powder to 2 to 3 parts water.

  3. Let it cool in the bowl, or pour it into a mould. It sets at room temperature.

  4. Cut it into pieces or long strips to feed.

Treat made gel as fresh food: seal it and keep it in the fridge for up to two weeks, or the freezer for up to six months. Grub Pie can also be fed as a slurry or paste, mixed into a gecko diet, or used as a topper on dry food. The gel is a handy way to give medication when a vet prescribes it.

Feed it as part of a varied diet
Repashy formulated Grub Pie to be complete and has had good results feeding it on its own, but for now recommends it as part of a balanced diet rather than the only food.
