Frozen colossal rats, 375 g and up, sold singly or in a bag of 3, the largest rat we carry. They are for big snakes and other large reptiles that have outgrown jumbo rats. Sizes vary a lot at this end, so a single lets you see what you are working with first.

Who it suits

Colossal rats suit the largest animals that take jumbo rats easily and need more. There is no upper weight on this size, so check each rat against your animal.

Pick prey no wider than the widest part of your animal's body, so it swallows and digests the meal safely. If you are not sure which size to choose, ask us and we will help.

Thawing and feeding

  1. Thaw the colossal rat in a sealed bag in the fridge, or in cool to lukewarm water, still sealed, to speed it up.

  2. Once it is thawed right through, warm it to near body temperature in warm water, still in the bag.

  3. Never use a microwave. It leaves hot spots and can burst the prey.

  4. Offer it with feeding tongs where that suits your animal.

  5. Remove anything left uneaten promptly and throw it out.

Storage and safety

  • Keep frozen at -18 °C (0 °F) or colder.

  • Keep it sealed in the freezer to limit freezer burn and odours.

  • Do not refreeze anything once it has thawed.

  • Treat it like raw meat: wash your hands, tools, and surfaces after handling.

Pickup or next-day delivery
Pick them up in store, or have them shipped within Canada by next-day courier in an insulated box, priced at checkout. Frozen orders go out Monday to Wednesday, so they never sit in a depot over a weekend. Where next day does not reach, a two-day service is offered at your own risk, and otherwise we quote it by hand. We do not ship frozen feeders to the US.

How big are they?

375 g and up. There is no set top end, so sizes vary.

Is there a bag?

Yes. Choose Bag of 3 above. If you add more singles than a bag holds, your cart makes up the cheapest mix for you, so 5 singles go in as a bag of 3 and 2 singles.

Can I refreeze a thawed rat?

No. Refreezing hurts both food safety and quality, so thaw only what you plan to feed.

Parcels across Canada and the US are priced at checkout from the packed boxes. Pallets and freight we price by hand, usually within one business day, and you pay nothing until you have seen the total. Pickup in Calgary is free.

Returns

14 day returns on eligible unused stock items, return shipping paid by the customer. Built-to-order goods are covered by the construction warranty rather than by returns. Restocking Fees Apply for returns
