The front-opening design means feeding and cleaning happen from the front, not from above. The kit uses our 36 x 15.5 x 16 in PVC cage. "40 gallon" is a size class, not a measured inside volume.

What's in the kit

  • 40 gallon PVC cage with hinged door

  • Exo Terra 100 W thermostat; 100 W is the load it can control

  • Basic LED lighting, visible light only, no UVB

  • Water dish

  • 8 qt of substrate, chosen to suit your snake

  • Caulking for the joints; let it cure fully before use

That is the standard kit. You can change parts in the bundle options, so check your selections before adding it to the cart, especially if you change the heater or thermostat. Hides, décor, and a thermometer are not included.

Choosing your options

The heat mat is a common choice for compact snake setups. A radiant heat panel is an alternative that gives gentle overhead heat and works well in PVC, and some species benefit from overhead basking heat. Whatever you use, control it with a suitable thermostat: if you choose a radiant heat panel instead of the mat, pair it with a proportional thermostat. Ask us if you want help choosing.

  1. Put the heat toward one end for the warm zone.

  2. Fix the thermostat probe at the heat's control point so it cannot move.

  3. Check the far end stays cooler for thermoregulation.

  4. Add a hide at each end and fresh water. A dish toward the cool side evaporates less.

  5. Once any caulking has fully cured, run it for 24 hours and check the warm and cool zones before your snake goes in.

Never run heat without a thermostat
Check temperatures with a separate thermometer rather than trusting the setting alone. Temperature, humidity, and substrate needs vary by species, so set up for the snake you keep.
Our advice
For higher humidity, seal the interior seams after assembly. Dynaflex 230 is for basic sealing, but it breaks down in standing water. For humid or bioactive builds and water features we use Lexel, which bonds well to our PVC and holds up in standing water. Give it extra time to offgas before your animal goes in.

Is it suitable for adult snakes?

That depends on the species, its length, and how active it is. The kit is meant for juveniles and smaller species, and many snakes will need a larger cage as they grow, so plan for the adult.

Do I need separate warm and cool sides?

Yes. Snakes regulate their temperature by moving between them.

Does the LED give UVB?

No. It lights the enclosure only. Add a UVB lamp if your snake needs one.
