Start your snake’s habitat with our 40 Gallon Snake Starter Kit, featuring a 36″ × 15½″ × 16″ PVC enclosure with a hinged front door. The standard kit includes a heat mat, Exo Terra 100W thermostat, basic LED lighting, water dish, 8 qt of substrate and caulking. Add suitable hides and enrichment to complete your setup.
Our 40 Gallon Snake Starter Kit brings together a Cornel’s World PVC enclosure and the core equipment needed to begin your setup. Heating, thermostat control, visible lighting and basic habitat supplies give you a foundation to build around your snake’s needs.
The front-opening enclosure makes feeding, cleaning and routine maintenance convenient. Add suitable hides and enrichment to complete the habitat, and choose enclosure size based on your snake’s length, activity level and expected adult size.
Use the listed dimensions when planning your setup. “40 Gallon” is the kit’s size designation, not a measured internal capacity.

A heat mat for creating a localized warm area when installed and controlled correctly.
Temperature control for the standard heat mat setup. The 100W rating is the thermostat’s load capacity.
Visible illumination to brighten the enclosure and make the interior easier to view.
A dish for providing fresh drinking water within the habitat.
Bedding for the enclosure floor. Choose a substrate suited to your snake’s requirements.
Sealant for the enclosure joints where required. Allow it to cure fully before use.
Follow the enclosure and heater instructions for mounting and thermostat probe placement. Position the heating toward one end so your snake can move between warmer and cooler areas.
Provide secure hiding places in both temperature zones, along with furnishings suited to your snake. Hides, décor and monitoring equipment are additional items unless included in your selected bundle.
After any sealant has fully cured, run the completed setup and check temperatures with separate measuring equipment. Confirm that the habitat meets your species’ needs before introducing your snake.
If you choose a radiant heat panel instead of the standard heat mat, pair it with a compatible proportional thermostat. Heating requirements depend on the room temperature, enclosure layout and the animal you keep.
