The Universal Rocks Crevice Background 24″ × 16″ adds realistic three-dimensional rock texture to an enclosure while maintaining a relatively low profile. With a depth of approximately 2″, it creates an impressive natural backdrop without taking up excessive floor space.
Universal Rocks molded the Crevice design from a basalt outcrop south of Sydney, Australia. As a result, the surface captures the cracks, layers and irregular details found in natural rock formations.
The Crevice background works well in both reptile enclosures and aquariums. Its detailed surface adds visual depth while leaving more usable space in front of the background for your animal, décor and equipment.
The Crevice background is approximately 2″ deep. Therefore, it is a great option when you want realistic three-dimensional rock texture without a background that projects far into the enclosure.
Fit Note:
Universal Rocks states that its backgrounds are generally approximately 1/2″ to 3/4″ shorter in each dimension than the listed external tank size. This helps the background fit inside a tank or enclosure with the corresponding outside dimensions. Always measure the actual interior before ordering.
Use the Crevice background to replace a plain rear wall with realistic rock texture. In particular, the shallow profile works well when maintaining usable floor space is important. Branches, plants, hides and other décor can then be arranged in front of the background.
The Crevice style was designed as an aquarium background and provides impressive rock detail without extending far into the tank. As a result, you can create a dramatic rear rock wall while retaining more swimming space.
The basalt-inspired texture pairs well with plants, wood, rocks and natural substrates. Consequently, the background can become part of the overall habitat design rather than simply covering the rear wall.
First, measure the actual interior width and height of your enclosure. The listed 24″ × 16″ size corresponds to external tank dimensions, while the actual background is made slightly smaller to help it fit inside.
Next, plan for approximately 2″ of depth from the rear wall. The low-profile design leaves more usable space than deeper 3D backgrounds while still creating substantial visual texture.
Finally, test-fit the background before permanently securing it. Check the position of heating, lighting, filtration, branches and other equipment before completing your setup.
