Why We Use It at Cornel’s World

Lexel Multi Purpose Sealant is a clear, synthetic rubber sealant. In our own testing, it bonds extremely well to the PVC we use for our caging. This makes it a useful option when choosing a sealant for compatible enclosure joints.

We have found standard silicone adhesion less reliable on our PVC. However, surface finishes vary, so test a small area before starting your project.

For bioactive builds, plan drainage and water management separately. A strong bond to PVC does not establish suitability for every animal-contact or submerged application.

Application Tips

1. Prepare the Surfaces

Remove dirt, oils and old caulk, especially silicone residue. Follow the label’s preparation instructions and test material compatibility first.

2. Apply a Continuous Bead

Apply evenly along the joints you need to seal. For our usual cage-sealing method, focus on the base and relevant vertical seams; roof joints are not included.

3. Smooth and Inspect

Use a caulking tool to smooth the bead into the joint. Then inspect corners, intersections and seam ends for missed spots. Even a small break can leave a path for moisture.

4. Allow Full Curing

Apply in a well-ventilated area, away from heat, sparks and flames. Follow the product label for curing and protective equipment. Keep animals away during application and curing; a dry surface alone does not mean the bead has fully cured.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Lexel a silicone sealant?

No. Lexel is a synthetic copolymer rubber sealant. Its flexibility does not come from a higher silicone content.

Why do you use it on PVC?

In our testing, Lexel bonds very well to our PVC caging material. We have found it a useful alternative where standard silicone adhesion has been less reliable.

Which size should I choose?

Choose the 148 mL squeeze tube for small jobs and touch-ups. For several builds or longer seams, choose the 310 mL cartridge and use a caulking gun.
