The 412L uses 2- AAA batteries (included). This IRT is ideal for users that need a range of a whopping 48 inches or less. The Herpstat 4 is our latest thermostat/vivarium controller. We added the much requested grounded outlets to this device as well as a auto dimming control for the lcd which will flash the lcd backlighting along with the audible warning if an error exists. Safety was our goal with this device. We added a mechanical relay that can be enabled to cut the power circuit to all four outlets in case a solid state component fails. Humidity control is also built into this device which can be as simple as timed misting sessions or full humidity control with our optional humidity sensor. We've added a soft startup feature to slowly add power on initial starts as well as a user selectable ramping between day and night time temperature settings as well as light ramping. A new revolutionary auto power matching algorithm constantly adjusts the power output to get the best regulation possible. We also added new AC control code that lets the device dim power in 100 steps to be able to finely tune the heating equipment. High and low temperature tracking now also records the time and day of the event. The Herpstat 4 comes with four temperature probes and is ready to go to work right out of the box. Based on our workhorse 24VDC diaphragm pump, capable of running up to 20 nozzles. This misting system is virtually silent. Pump is very robust and can run dry!!! This pump has been tested for a long time in the field and in the factory and by us personally. It has extremely low failure rates and it simply WORKS! We went through a lot of pumps before arriving at this one. Custom manufactured for MistKing.com and is unique to us. All our nozzles are equipped with a check-valve which greatly reduces the drip after misting is done. This was already a great improvement that set us apart from other vendors. In addition to the check-valved nozzles, we incorporated a dump valve which we dubbed ZipDrip. This valve instantly releases all the pressure in the misting lines, resulting in ZERO (ZIP!) drip. Pump is adapted for 1/4" push in fittings and carries 2 year warranty. This pump can silently run 1 nozzle or as many as 20 nozzles. If you're misting an animal enclosure, You now have the freedom and total control. Mist for few seconds in the morning to rehydrate the environment. Mist for few minutes in the after noon to mimic natural weather patterns. If you're currently using a 'hardware store' digital timer with a 1 min minimum cycle time, then consider upgrading.

What you should know when buying a digital timer

Hardware store digital timers rely on watch style battery. When that battery is drained, there isn't enough current to trip the relay - your misting system can stay on 'forever' until you manually turn it off. Also, the programmed ON times are set on per minute basis. (smallest ON interval is 1 minute)

Repeat cycle timers, address the above issues, but have pitfalls of their own All ON and OFF cycles have to be the same in duration, which hardly mimics natural environment. RCT, keep cycling 24hr/day. You do not have the ability to mist at specific hour of the day. RCT are also quite a bit more expensive then this timer custom made for MistKing.com

Drip Reduced Nozzles

Spare nozzle. These are the same low flow nozzles used in our misting system kits. If you're not using reverse osmosis (RO) or distilled water in your systems we strongly recommend getting extra nozzles. Impurities and mineral deposits in tap water will reduce nozzle efficiency and performance. Conical drip reduced nozzles with check valve & filter screen. Finest mist producing nozzle available - Droplet size is about 55 microns. These are the exact same nozzles that others sell RED, our low flow nozzles are custom manufactured for us and are exclusively available in black.

The 17" Heat Tape does not get as hot as the 11" or 4" It would be good as warming mats for show displays. I am just looking to clear out the stock I have

This product is furnished upon the condition that the user will determine its suitability, that the user assumes all risks whatsoever and that neither the seller nor the manufacturer shall be held liable for damages for any injury, loss, or damage, direct, or consequential, arising from use or inability to use the product. The flexwatt material being supplied is a heating product and a thermostat must be used.

This product should be used with a dimmer switch, proportional thermostat, or a rheostat. Using this product without one of these controllers, will result in damage to the heat tape, caging, and could possibly cause death to the animal in the cage being heated. WARNING You manufacture this product yourself, there is no implied warranty, and you incur all liability when using this product. Although this product when installed properly is safe, if used incorrectly can cause major damage if left unchecked. Use common sense when using this or any other heating device.

Electricity Usage

17" heat tape is 10 watts per foot. Max length of heat tape is 48'
11" heat tape is 20 watts per foot. Max length of heat tape is 24 panels or 25' (11" heat tape is 12 ½" per panel. 24 panels equals 25')
4" heat tape is 8 watts per foot. Max length of heat tape is 60 feet.

Heat Tape for Use In Cages

If using on a shelf with rubbermaids or aquariums you can lay it on the shelf and adhere it to the shelf with one of the above noted materials. These enclosures will not burn or melt the tape if the heat is controlled properly. A single pole dimmer, or a Helix proportional thermostat works best for controlling the temperatures. If using inside a cage, make sure that the heat tape is covered by a material noted above, and that the electrical connections are connected outside of the cage. Heat Tape will not work for heating a wood cage with the heat tape on the outside of the cage.

Important things to know about heat tape

Keep tape under 95 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the manufacturer’s recommendation. You must use a dimmer to achieve this otherwise the heat tape will exceed this temperature, and will cause damage to the heat tape and possibly other items. When cutting 4" heat tape it can be cut through the black lines, but when the black lines are exposed, they need to be insulated. The edge of the tape when exposed can be insulated with silicone or electrical tape. When wiring heat tape, always insulate the electrical contacts with silicone, hot glue, or tape. To wire heat tape properly without using the actual heat tape connectors please follow the wiring instructions at the Cranwill FAQ. The cord can also be soldered onto the heat tape, but is not required. Use an insulated electrical box for housing the dimmer switch. If you are not sure how to wire up a dimmer switch to the heat tape, please send me an e-mail for directions. It is easy once you know what you are doing, but you can cause damage if it is not wired properly. Use of the metal crimp connectors and the plastic insulators is what I would recommend.
